Flowering tree endemic to Puerto Rico. Its flower known in Spanish as Flor de Maga, is officially recognized as the national flower of Puerto Rico. The Maga is mostly used as an ornamental tree, but it's also valued for its durable timber. The wood is used for string instruments and other craftsmanship. The Maga tree is pollinated by bats and the flowers attract insects and birds, such as bees and hummingbirds.
